EVALUATION

For my fear season ident i filmed and edited a 20 second film. overall i feel that it is asuccess and im proud of what iv done and learnt in the brief. the idea i had was that everybody has a dark, so bring it out and watch the channel 4 fear season. then i started to think about having someone merge into their dark side. so i then story boarded it using amematix because i could really draw what i wanted to achieve. at that point i didn't know what background to use and that i wanted to use the HD camera so i decided to do it in green screen, i feel that that was the best thing to do and wouldn't change that. when it came to filming i got a friend to do the acting and he did a great job. when it came to the green screening my key worked well but could have been better i had to play around in keylight to get it right. if i was to film it again i would have got the actor to do some more in-depth choreography and hold in certain position screaming so i could get a better effect. i feel i did ok with the make up and make the viewer know that it was from good side to dark. i just used a halloween make up kit for that. if i could i would have got jodie my friend who did our last horror film make up to come but i couldn't get hold of her. when coming to editing i did the whole ident edit in final cut before taking it into after effect i did this because i had had to cut the footage up to much for after effects. so after getting the ident in the order to my story board i took it into after effects. i dropped the final cut ident in to after effect and the first thing i did was use the keylight to take the green away. i started playing around with the footage as iv shown on my blog, using twixtor, warping, magic bullet etc. but after this i decided to just use the quick cutting in and out effect. i would have use more twixtor and plug in like that if i thought about getting the actor to hold in certain positions for longer to get that slow mo warping effect like Chris Cunninghan does. i had to do a little tutorial on keylight in after effects because when i put a black background behind it you could see some green. so i think next time i use green screen im going to take extra time in setting up the light pointing at the green screen so the are not hot spots, shadows or creases in the screen. when it came to sound i used some sound for soundtrack pro and did some myself. i would like to try do my own sounds on my next brief but i was tied up for time on this brief. the voice at the end is me and i sound like a girl, but it is quite freaky. i wanted the sound to be really intense and in you face so when it came on your TV it made you jump and feel disturbed and i hope it works. at the end of the ident i only flashed up the title and logo because i wanted to make people think more about the advert "what was that about" then they will be intrigued to watch it again.

This is hat i did i used the tutorial and a bit of freestyle in keylight to get the shot darker and with no green round the edges.

DESPILLING

On my green screen after keying it out and putting in a black background i could see some green round the actor as the moved really fast so i used the despill bias to get rid of that. i went though the tutorial in advanced keying that you get with after effects. i helped me loads.,

TWIXTOR OR NOT?

This is with a lot of twixtor on it to give that morphing effect. this time i didn't slow it down i just changed the motion sensitivity and put motion weighted blend on. i dont think going to im going to use this effect in my final piece. i prefer the choppy feel for doing it in final cut.

TOYING WITH BACKGROUNDS?

ok i put the background images into after effects and i didn't really like the look of the compared to the black that i thought was going to be good. but i feel that it was a good idea to research some backgrounds. i was looking to get a background with a normal look but again with a freaky feel.

BACKGROUND IDEAS?

I got a digital SLR and went out and looked for some grimy backgrounds. i took quite a lot of images but these are some that i though might look ok. but in my mind i thought that it was going to look really good just with a black background so i keeps all the focus on the character.

MY MAKE UP FOR FEAR SEASON

This is the make i did on my actor callum. i used white face cream and black face paint to make the actor look freaky. what i did is put a light covering of make up on then got him to stand in the same place in front of the camera, so i could see if it was what i wanted. after a few more allover coverings it was looking really affective on the camera. i also darkened under his cheek bones to give a skinnier look to him.

trying different effects

this is a shot clip from my ident with an effect from twixtor, its just slowing it down and putting the motion weighted blend on. after playing with this and doing many test i think that it looks better been choppy, it gives a sharper more in you face kind of look. iv just put purple in the background at the moment thats not the final background.

CHRIS CUNNINGHAN

chris cunninghan work is on the same level and feel that i want my ident to be. just because he uses really stricking images with disturbing sound. which is exactly what im going for. watch this video to see.

he also has a really different view on how to do things, for example the nissan advert that iv posted. i just love the way he shoots and edits .

MY GREEN SCREEN

my filming with my actor callum went really well he did a really good job by putting alot of effort and pashion into the shoot.i used three lights for this, two on the the green screen and one on the subject above to the left to cast a freaky shadow on the face. as you can see i put purple in the background to show that the green screen works well. i just used keylight on after effects.

i think that the simple non feature faces sometimes look the scariest. im going to buy some make up and play around with it.

THE WORKING

for the fear on four ident i have got the font that channel four use to make the fear season logo. i used the web site to guide me. this way it will appear to the viewer as a real channel four ident.

PLAYING WITH IDEAS

in this clip im just playing with different effects using twixtor and warping in after effects i also played with the sound a little. i think it give a disturbing feel which is what i want..




this is with out the sound but i think its better. i put the black flashes to show the change from good to dark. so you get the feel.

MY ANAMATIC FOR FEAR

This is my anamatics for the fear ident. i feel that it gives a good idea of what im going for. the sound i used was of soundsnap which is a good site for sound, the screaming is all of the original footage. when i get the actor to do the scene im going to get him to do some really intense screaming.

ok i tried to warp my face from the amimatix in did. i think it looks pretty freaky so i might use a little in my ident. i also was playing around with colour and mood of the evil side. i used a ramp in after effects to get rid of the light on the left.

make for ident

i needed to research make up for my ident. for when the man changes to give it more of a fear factor in going to have him with a disturbing face.



just seen this on youtube i think its really good because this is the kind of effect that in going for. butt mine is going to be really make more than using after effects for the fear face. to do this they warped the mouth and eyes in after effects. i think it gives a disturbing look that will get people talking about horror season.

horror ident

these are some horror idents i found on youtube. i think there well done with good use of a dolly to add the fear in to the scene. i feel that i could make mine alot intense to make the viewer remember that there is horror on 4 .

magic

again using magic bullut to get the effect so it give more of a horror feel.

the effect we used was in a plug in to final cut called magic bullut. we made our own effect fo the movie. we used a lot of gradiants and played with curves etc. i think it give the film the feeling it needed.

working on my green screen PPD.

these are some screenshots of me working in final cut and after effects. i started trying to key out the green screen first in final cut. this was not to good. so i took them to after effects. my first try of filming the green screen was with the normal HDV camera. the footage when put in after effects was noisey and a little pixleated. so did all the filming again using the better HD camera. this worked really well and i was able to key myself out very well.


when i had myself keyed out well i had to this about the colour of myself so i use an effect call colour balance to make it look more like i was there. the pic above is prety good colour with the reds from the light above.

to make the keying out of myself better in the green screen i could have used more lights on myself. it would have given a better key in after effects.

i thought these adverts for poker were really cool.

We are making a short horror film which is to be 2 minutes long for a competition bieng held by the channel zone horror, one of my friends does SFX makeup at uni and these are some examples of the sort of work she does...

script

This is a version of our horros story after we have had our crit and some interesting input has been applied, we have decided to twist the story far more than we originally had. But the darker the better, also we have locations and actors almost finalised.

(Beggining with a ms)A young girl is sat on her computer, she is using an instant messenger to talk to a friend. (Cut to view through her eyes CU on computer screen) you see the last few messages of her conversation, it’s from a boy saying we’ve been talking for a while now are we gonna meet soon, you hear her voice in her head, “should i go? i’ve been talkin to him for a while i think i should” they arrange to meet at a bridge loacally to the pair. (cuts to shot through her eyes) she sees a male halfway across the bridge lookin at the river, (cut to LS, zoom to CU of male face, cut back to view through her eyes) “oh no this was a bad idea, he looks old enough to be my dad” She turns to walk away (trough eyes) when she sees a young man,(shot through his eyes) he says “hi it’s jake” (shot from her eyes) “thank god” . He suggests they go for a walk in the woods, she is more than happy to get away from the bridge. (LS) They start walking, they head through these woods filled with bluebells (through girls eyes LS) she turns and sees the old man walking behind them, (MS from side) she grabs the boys arm and walks briskly off deep into the woods, (through his eyes CU) he stops as does she they look deep into each others eyes (alternating CU) both close their eyes, as though they are going to kiss (screen goes blank) lots of banging and the male grunting, the girl stays quiet. (cut to a CU of a computer screen) hear a double click and a photo album opens up on screen..........................pictures of the boys mutilated body. (MS) Girl on instant messenger again.

adding and changing

i thought it would be a cool idea to add a visual thought bubble in the story insted of just text. as the hare reads in boarders a thought bubble come up and plays a skateboard clip. to add the video i have to cut it down in final cut. then save it as a quicktime movie. then import it to my libary, going though all the different stages of set up.



at first i added the text to the story at the top of the page. i thought this looked rubish so i designed some thought bubbles in illustrator. which i think made it look a lot cleaner and easier to follow.



this is what it looks like.

after animating my character. i went into the city to get the pictures for the race. i took about 170-200 images. i then had to resize all the images in photoshop using the resizing tool. which was a new technique i learnt that will come in very handy in the future.

the screen shots are of me working in flash. after i added all the images in order of the race i had to then start to make it interactive.

the part marked in red on the above image is the timeline with the frame numbers. the reason for making each image like 10 frames long is so the the interative story continues if the player doesnt click the button. the story always ends up as the tortoise winning. the part marked green is the action scripting for the buttons with make the hare run faster and also for the distractions in which you coome apon.

the part marked blue is my librey with all of the images, sound, movie clips, buttons, etc.

Animating the tortoise

i found out that you could animate my character in photoshot using image ready. its pretty simple you create different layers with the different movement you want then add it to the animation line at the bottom. you then can just import the layers to your flash librey and convert it to a movie clip.
